Ok all, this is Brady typin’. I had an incredible adventure last night. Shortly after Christmas dinner I took off on my own to explore. Went to some of the local hot spots, Bare Foot Iguanas and Big Daddy’s Disco. I made some new friends at Holiday Hotel, Kris and Oscar. These guys are friggin” cool! Playin me my Sublime, Bad Brains and King Tubby CD’s on the beach! Yeah! I met a lot of locals and learned many things most “tourists” do not get out of San Pedro. I had a couple of close encounters where I could have been mugged or even hurt. The approach of these strangers was scary, but I believe I carried myself in manner that kept things from getting worse. In a way, I was asking for it, a stranger walking down streets at 3 in the morning in a foreign country. Maybe not the smartest thing, but I experienced incredible feelings of , not only my own mortality, but humanity. Two of these people “casing” me actually came back and apologized! Another instance, I met, let’s say his name was “John” in order to protect him from the police, at Big Daddy’s. I “felt” he was befriending me to get the bag I carried which held a $1,500 camera. After the bar closed, he followed me out offering shelter for the evening. I declined thanking him but he was very insistent and followed me down the sand road. I started conversations on his life and experiences in Belize and talked of America and how I personally felt of  “the American way”. It was an enlightening conversation and one I have had several times with many people from many countries. He confided, in a slight way of his original intentions, befriending me. I, in a leap of “faith”, held out my bag and said “Take it”, he said, “Are you giving this to me?”, I said “No, if you take it, you will be stealing, but if you steal it I don’t care, it is just “shit”.” He thought a moment, said, “So you are not giving this to me?” I said, “No”. He thought again for a few seconds, then the hard stare he seemed to “naturally” carry softened. He smiled at me said “Be careful, I am going home.” I went on my way smiling, feeling that we had both come away learning some sense of unity. All in all, I feel safer here than in my own home town of San Antonio, Texas. I guess it’s all a matter of identifying and frame of mind. Shall I become Belizean? The thought is so inviting.
(Note: I shared this story with a few locals and got a mixed response. Some maybe read it as if I was being too critical and their own feelings were I was being a “foolish pushover”. Others understood more what I was trying to convey and basically their response was , “Wow, cool!”. So I decided to go ahead and post this since, to me, it was significant.)

Oh yeah! At about 4am I buried my belongings and clothes in the sand and swam about an 8th of a mile to the boat for beddy-bye-time. Honestly, I kept thinking about the beginning of “Jaws” as I swam to the boat! HA! HA!

Look out Alice Faye! Cheryl give J.D. lots love, I miss my dog so much. And to Blu! I miss you very much and I believe soon you will get to come down and experience all the wonderful things here. “How does it feel to be one of the beautiful people?
Now that you know who you are, what do you want to be?
And have you traveled very far?
Far as the eye can see.
How does it feel to be one of the beautiful people?
How often have you been there?
Often enough to know.
What did you see when you were there?
Nothing that doesn’t show.
Baby you’re a rich man,
Baby you’re a rich man,
Baby you’re a rich man too.
You keep all your money in a big brown bag inside a zoo.
What a thing to do.
Baby you’re a rich man,
Baby you’re a rich man,
Baby you’re a rich man too.
How does it feel to be one of the beautiful people?
Tune to it naturally.
Happy to be that way.
Now that you’ve found another key, what are you going to play?
Baby you’re a rich man,
Baby you’re a rich man,
Baby you’re a rich man too.
You keep all your money in a big brown bag inside a zoo.
What a thing to do.
Baby you’re a rich man,
Baby you’re a rich man,
Baby you’re a rich man too....”
