We still fight off flies and mosquitos. We are all researching the Belize cruising guide trying to find our next destination where we can find cheap beer and deep water. Our next speed bump appears to be Porto Stuck. I wonder why they call it that!? Today is our one month anniversary since our departure. We have covered 1,147 miles with 30,000 to go! And to Jo Jo!!!! Miss you and hope to see you in February.

We have gotten rid of some “dead weight” and will be sailing lighter than ever before. Violence is a sign of extreme ignorance.

At 11:30am Captain makes “samiches” and fries for breakfast. We have restocked supplies and will do our laundry today, Yeehaw! We will say our goodbyes to all our new friends in Caye Caulker. Tomorrow we set sail inside the reef for Placencia. It will be about a 70 mile trip, but along the way we will try to enjoy the serenity of as many uninhabited cayes as we can. Last night the Captain was talking long distance to his sweetheart Jo Jo at a streetside pay phone, when this hyped up, rasta girl grabbed the phone and started yelling that she was his woman while he was here. Captain had to do some fast talkin’ with only 2 minutes left on his phone card! Hope everything’s well at home.

“I Luv I Jah” or (I Love My Dog)

“Walking down Babylon lane
Trying to live my life in peace
Two young men call me not their brother
They try make I feel ashamed

But I luv I Jah yeah
He tell me not to be that way
I love my dog
I gotta keep my P.M.A. (Positive Mental Attitude)

My lovely sister
Don’t judge me by my “clothes”
Only to learn of her mistake
Not everyone’s alike
We are not all uptight
No fuss, No fight
Cool that way, Cool that way

I love my dog
He tell me not to be that way
I luv I Jah yeah
I gotta keep my P.M.A.

I luv, I luv I Jah........
I love, I love my dog.........”

Yesterday we passed through Porto Stuck only hitting one speed bump! Not bad for a boat with a 6.6” draft. We anchored up for the night at St. George’s Caye. Visited the isle briefly to discover many beautiful beach front homes but the island seemed to be uninhabited. Front rolled in with rain so we raced back to Chiriga to close up the ports. We are now headed for Water Caye where we hope to swim with the manatees and maybe see a gator or two.

Friday,
01-12-01

Sailed to Blue Field Range and anchored for the night. We explored the maze of mangroves, again hoping to swim with the manatees but none in sight. Jerry and Brady fished catching about 100 fish under 3 inches. Jerry wanted to clean them all! Captain says nothing broke today and the head smells like “cho-caca-late”. Beer rationing til Placencia. Another words, Brady is cut off!

Saturday,
01-13-01

Visited a beautiful little isle called Rendezvous Caye. Seven palm trees and a white sand beach covered with conch shells. No one else in sight! Continued on to Tobacco Range 21 miles south. Raised the sails and maintained a steady 5.5 knots. Anchored up for the night and hoped to maybe swim with the elusive manatee but no luck. Captain made another round of his chicken fried ribeyes.
Special HAPPY BIRTHDAY to 1st Mate, Jerry!!!!!
Tomorrow Placencia!
