Raised anchor 9:15 and set sail for Placencia. Wind quickly died and water became glass. Lowered the sails and motored the 27 miles to Placencia. Dropped anchor about 4pm. We went ashore for mas cervezas and some games of pool. Met many locals and travelers with lots of great conversation and laughs. As the night got later, Captain even attempted a little punta dancing!
“The sailor said Brandy you’re a fine girl, what a good.......” Alright! Alright ! We won’t sing that!
Ok, well how about..........
“Sailing, it takes me away to where I always heard it would be...ee...e...”
Damn! You should hear us, we are right on key!!! Ha! Ha!

This place is by far the most beautiful, untouched and pristine destination we have been. Everything is so gorgeous! Colorful birds, flowers, people, even the palm trees are so beautiful, seems they were made by some artisan. Want to say hello! to all our friends emailing us and we will try and stay in touch when possible. Monica, wish you were here to help with the log! It really is a tough job to try and convey everything and be entertaining at the same time.
“Is that Port O’Connor?” And Jake! Thanks for the advice on the site will try to apply more in those areas. Will add more photos and logs later in the week. Ciao!

Placencia consists of only 2 thoroughfares. One being a dirt road, and the other, a mile long sidewalk which runs from the harbor up along the crescent shaped beach. The walk is the main means of transportation and a majority of the businesses and residences are along the path. It took 30 years to build the sidewalk! If you compare it to the Great Pyramids and the like it’s kinda funny, but then again, everyone here is on “Belizean time”.

We spent the day and night exploring the small village and getting to know our new surroundings. Met up again with Frank from the “Talisman” and enjoyed a lobster dinner.

Jerry returns home for a 3 week hiatus. We miss you “Jeddy”! Look forward to your return. BRADY!.....sheared the shear pin on the outboard prop today. Luckily we found another in a box of screws! So we still have the luxury of not having to row! Had a silly night of karaoke with new friends at the “Tipsy Tuna”. “....Hey Jude take a sad song and make it worse .....Jude! ...Jude! ...Jude! ...Jude! ........na ......na..........na...na..na.. na.. naaaaaaaa!”(hiccup) ”Hey Jude!”

A day of relaxing around the boat and fishing. Hit J-Byrds bar for live reggae. It seems the entire town congregated for the event. All 400 including the tourists! Good music, dancing and fun.

Saturday,
01-20-01

Celebrated Frank’s and local woman, Brenda’s birthday. Bar-B-Q chicken and fish, cake, tribal drumming and rum. Met a local named “Shakey” and his wheel barrel and had some good fun about drinking and driving with a wheel barrel. Laughed so hard our stomachs hurt. Later, Brady and Mark 1, new friend from Great Britain, headed down the road with ghettoblaster on shoulder jammin’ “Sublime”. Passed many locals and Rasta’s who said “Ya mon, jammin’.” Got “home” 4:30am. Left my ghettoblaster and cd’s at “Tipsy Tuna”.
